About
Amanda Baird
While I am passionate about the treatment of eating disorders, I also have the skills and experience to address anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, and interpersonal/relationship issues, whether those experiences exist within or outside of the context of an eating disorder.
I take a trauma-informed approach to all care, as I view this as essential to understanding the systemic and individual components of experience that may impact treatment. While I often utilize motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) concepts and interventions within the context of treatment, these are underpinned by humanistic and insight-oriented theoretical teachings.
Treatment aims to provide you with a supportive, compassionate space to process your experiences and feelings, seek understanding about your patterns and struggles, and identify and practice ways of thinking and being that will shift your experience of and relationship to yourself.
Education
I received my dual-major B.A. in psychology and brain and cognitive sciences from the University of Rochester, minoring in Japanese. I received my Ph.D. from Binghamton University, where I was given the opportunity to engage in both research and clinical opportunities that deepened my understanding of and appreciation for the challenges and rewards that come with therapeutic work. I have had a myriad of clinical and research experiences with adolescents and adults across diverse settings over the years, and continue to extend the breadth and depth of my knowledge through continuing education.
