Therapy

I primarily provide individual therapy, and will soon be offering group therapy for those in eating disorder recovery.

While I do not provide family therapy as a primary treatment option, I often meet with parents or partners of those struggling with eating disorders intermittently to provide education, facilitate communication, and collaboratively approach treatment goals and needs. At times, family therapy may be indicated as a separate need; in those instances, I will provide referrals and will often continue to provider support and care to the individual who originally sought therapy. If this is not clinically indicated or if there are other reasons this is not feasible, we will work together to figure out how to best meet your needs.

What does therapy look like?

Issues

I  am invested in helping those struggling in their relationship with food and their body, and have specialized training and expertise in this area. However, I also have training in and enjoy working with those who are seeking therapy for their depression, anxiety, grief, trauma, and interpersonal/relational concerns.

Approach

You do not exist in a vacuum, and we cannot separate your concerns from your lived experience. The intersection of your identities, and the way that this affects your experience of the world, your experience of yourself, and others' experiences of you, is critical for us to understand and use as a framework for our work together. Furthermore, I view treatment through a trauma-informed lens, and am mindful of and sensitive to creating an environment and relationship that prioritizes your safety, autonomy, and empowerment.

Who

I work primarily with adults but have a limited number of openings for adolescents (typically 15 and up) who are struggling with an eating disorder. The limited number of adolescents I see at any one given time is purposeful, as these situations often require close collaboration with other current providers, family involvement, and other potential sources of support and contact (e.g., school psychologist; previous therapists). I believe that you deserve the best care possible; being mindful of the time this takes allows us to aim for that.

Interventions

I am trained in and often utilize motivational interviewing, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and mindfulness-based strategies (e.g., dialectical behavior therapy, or DBT; mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, or MBCT; acceptance and commitment therapy, or ACT). However, I also utilize internal family systems (IFS) and other parts-work-based approaches when appropriate.

We will work together to determine what approach best fits your needs.

Please note: I am not taking new clients at this point in time. However, I am happy to speak with you to help connect you with resources; I add clients to my wait-list when we both agree that this is appropriate. At other times, I provide potential clients with referrals to other providers.

The most important thing is that you get the care you deserve.
